Open-Source Benchmark Tool for Cut Element Integration

Proper integration of cut elements presents a significant challenge in numerical simulations involving trimmed geometries, immersed methods, and various other approaches. As a result, there are several approaches dedicated to addressing this issue. Typically, these methods are developed with different applications in mind and are often presented and validated for the given context. However, all these approaches share the same underlying challenge of handling numerical integration over domains arbitrarily intersected by an interface, which may change over time. We present an open-source benchmark tool written in MATLAB employing continuous-integration-inspired workflows with clear interfaces between the test and integration routines. Thus, it facilitates the comparison of various integration concepts on the same test suit. In addition, the modular structure of the open-source code allows the scientific community to add their approaches or test examples, potentially leading to a more thorough assessment of their developments. In this talk, we present the structure of (i) the benchmarks and (ii) the integration of codes based on different programming languages, and some comparison studies.
